Bulldog Training

What is Bulldog Training?

The Counselors at Oak Hills High School are implementing a program title Bulldog Training for all ninth grade students. The purpose of the program is to:

1. Assist with the transition between Junior High and High School.

2. Provide useful strategies for freshmen to deal with typical freshmen issues.

3. Help students connect with valuable resources on campus.

4. Show students importance of a strong academic quest during their entire high school career.

5. Decrease discipline problems and improve student attendance.

Bulldog Training will be offered to both boys and girls on separate workshop days at Oak Hills High School. The program is conducted by Counselors, the Career Center Specialist, and trained eleventh grade students from our peer counseling program. Workshops are designed to accommodate up to sixty students a session; therefore we will offer six different dates throughout the school year in order to include as many students as possible. Students will participate for an entire school day but will only be allowed to attend one session throughout the school year. We have received donations from local business owners to provide lunch and snacks to the participants. Students will be required to make up any work they miss and parent permission slip is required before a student can participate.

The basic topics to be addressed include: healthy relationships, conflict resolution, school relevance, positive self concept, and peer relationships. The activities are meant to be interactive, age appropriate, educational as well as interesting.

It is our belief that ninth grade students need to feel connected and important in order to achieve success in their first year of high school. Bulldog Training is one of the ways we plan to make that connection for freshmen students and assist in the transition to Oak Hills High School.

If you are interested in having your student participate, fill out a permission slip and return it to the counseling office. If you have any questions regarding this program, feel free to contact the counseling office at 760-244-2283 ext 4762 or e-mail Mrs. Browning or Mr. Boberg.
